WHAT IS A LUMBAR SPRAIN/STRAIN?
It is a rupture or stretch in the soft tissue that results in damage to the muscles and ligaments in the regions around the lumbar spine, sacrum, and pelvis, together known as the lower back.
The degree of the injury determines the grade of the sprain or strain that has occurred.

Pain in the lower back that may spread to the lower middle back or to the buttocks

WHAT ARE SOME REASONS THAT LUMBAR SPRAINS/STRAINS OCCUR?
They Include:
-
Injuries caused by direct trauma, such as sports injuries, falls, and motor vehicle accidents

Excessive use, exhaustion, and repeated microtrauma
-
Postural causes such as an increase or decrease in lumbar lordosis, extended stressful postures when working at a desk or with a computer
