Frequently Asked Questions
1
What does a chiropractor do?
To remove biomechanical strains via the use of adjustments and muscular therapy.

Biomechanical strains occurs when the pressure exerted on the body is more than the strength the body has to sustain itself. The strains are occurring faster pace than the speed at which the body is able to repair itself.

Most of the time it is our habits and posture that causes repeated, sustained stress on our body. Age is another factor which reduces the speed our bodies repair.

This causes chronic muscle tension and joint immobility that puts pressure on nerves which gives pain, numbness, loss of strength and loss of sensation in bad cases.

Treatment is aimed to relieve pressure on these nerves to improve pain, relieve numbness and improve joint range of motion. This gives the body a ‘head start’ advantage so that it may have time to repair itself before more damage is done. A course of treatment will ensure that repairs are occurring faster than the body’s rate of damage, thus reconditioning the body.

What will I expect after having a chiropractic treatment?
The main improvement will be the immediate decrease in pain and numbness sensations. The ability to move will increase and thus getting into a better posture will be much easier. Some may even say their senses have improved, as the decrease of the pain sense have allowed improved awareness of other senses.

However, in rare circumstances, or if you are new or haven’t had much therapy in the past, you may experience a little soreness in the muscles for the first 1-3 days after treatment.

It feels like you have over-exercised, but such outcomes are normal and you will feel better after this. In short, it will go away. If required, icing may be used in the first 24 hours to minimise this issue.

In order for proper repair to take place, we will need to encourage blood supply to your muscles for repair. The deeper the soft tissue work, the more improvements you can expect, but can also increase the chances you may feel sore after treatment. We are experienced enough to treat just enough to avoid this, but at times the unexpected feeling may still happen.
3
Can I get a chiropractic treatment if I am pregnant?
Yes, we can still treat you during pregnancy. However, treatment is different during the trimesters of pregnancy.

Usually during the 1st and 3rd trimesters, treatment will be light and mainly soft-tissue based work on the lower half of the body.

Conservative treatment and mobilisations can be done to the upper parts of the body with minimal adjustments.

During the 2nd trimester treatment can be closer to normal with conservative treatment and mobilisations to the lower parts of the body. While the upper parts of the body can be treated more normally with soft tissue work and adjustments.
4
What kind of clothes should I wear when I see a chiropractor?
Wear something comfortable and loose. Shorts and T-shirts are preferable, and you may bring them with you to change into.

One-piece dresses and overalls are not ideal. Restrictive jeans and dress shirts may make you uncomfortable during treatment. It may also restrict the usage of modalities such as ultrasound and electrotherapy.
5
Is it safe to have neck adjustment? Is the treatment painful?
When a chiropractor is correctly trained and licensed, it is generally safe to have chiropractic adjustment. We use orthopaedic testing and go through your history thoroughly to ensure safety.

We are properly qualified and properly insured. If additional testing is needed, we will refer you to get other imaging tests such as x-rays or MRIs.
6
Do private health insurance plans cover chiropractic treatment?
Yes, most of insurance companies recognise chiropractic treatment and cover part of the fees. However, there will be a gap payment, depending on the level of extras cover you have chosen with your private health fund provider.

Additionally, some patients may have access to EPC (Enhanced Primary Care) referral from GP’s. This is a referral from GP’s for allied health services such as chiropractic for people with a chronic medical condition, and complex care needs.

You get up to 5 every year. Currently, it covers $55.10 (2022) for each of those sessions. You may use this to cover part of a treatment and pay a gap. Or alternatively, it will cover a 20mins session with no gap payment.
